Why Joe?
At the age of seven on a family holiday Joe was called up on stage to help British magician Paul Daniels (‘Dynamo’ of the time!) on stage.
After the show he was hooked!
In his teenage years he performed and won every school and local talent show he entered, he knew he was on the right path. At the age of 16 he won Magician of the Year, the youngest ever at the time in Ireland.
The next year he then went on to win The International Brotherhood of Magicians ? Stage Performer of the Year. Later that year he came second in the BBC talent show Go For It (the Britain’s Got Talent in the 90?s!)
After leaving college in Dublin he turned professional. That is to say, he ONLY has ever made his living performing magic. As he says himself, he has never had a ‘real job’. This is important as so many call themselves professionals but often magic is something they do alongside a regular nine to five. There are actually just a handful of actual professionals in Ireland today…those are the magicians you want to hire!
Joe has appeared on countless T.V. shows including The Late Late Show (twice), Ireland AM (twice), Xpose, The Six One News and Kenny Live (as a teen).
He designed and performed all the magic and illusion effects in two sell out runs, in Dublin’s Abbey Theatre which then transferred to London’s West End where Joe’s performance received special praise and reviews.
Joe also was handpicked to star in a TV advert for the Suzuki car brand…playing the role of a magician of course!
Most recently he was approached (in a panic) by an advertising agency as they needed a magic effect for the end of the Tesco TV ad. They needed a till receipt to magically turn into coins. They tried it with computer effects but it just looked wrong. Under pressure, Joe achieved it in one take (with an extra one for safety!)
Daly performs what can only be described as the work of the devil with extraordinary ease and charisma.
The Sunday Business Post on Magick Macabre
Apart from being an expert close up magician, Joe is also a talented stage illusionist. After seeing one of Joe’s shows, Riverdance director and producer John McColgan was so impressed he commissioned Joe to write and perform an two hour stage illusion show complete with a cast of seventeen. The show was Magick Macabre and played in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre for an entire month.
